採櫻桃

顧名思義，cherry-picking是去採櫻桃，就像strawberry-picking（採草莓）一樣，但實際上cherry-picking另有含義，不能照字面解。Cherry-picking真正的意思是to choose or select what's to one's advantage（專挑或選擇對自己有利的）。譬如說，The defendant, aided by his lawyer, cherry-picks evidence in his favor.（被告在律師幫助下，專挑對自己有利的證據）。

本欄1016期談到世界銀行總裁伍夫維茲（Paul D. Wolfowitz）目前正陷於苦戰，常被指責cherry-picked intelligence to sell President Bush and the American people a war with Iraq（挑了一些情報讓布希總統和美國人民支持對伊拉克的戰爭）。

台北中正紀念堂改名引起藍營的抗議，綠營反擊，被視為綠營對外喉舌的《Taipei Times》（英文台北時報）還發表社論說：Cherry-picking history so that Chiang Kai-shek and his cronies can remain exalted is altogether indecent. 這句話是「由於歷史的取捨，而讓蔣介石和其密友們繼續受到尊崇，根本是不適當的」。
