機票就是你的教科書！記住這7個多益常考英文單字，看懂航空公司退換票規定

近日發生的華航空服員罷工事件，引起大眾關心，這算是台灣第一起大規模的空服員罷工事件。事實上，罷工在國外非常常見，筆者就曾聽過朋友在歐洲因為空服員罷工，而必須滯留機場呢！為了維護自身權利，這時絕對要搞清楚航空公司針對機票所訂的規則。

在此節錄美國大型航空公司Delta Air Lines對於機票所訂定的規則來說明，同時這些單字也都是多益測驗的常見字彙，讓我們一邊學習如何了解規則，一邊複習多益單字吧！

1. Fares and schedules are subject to change without notice.（所有的票價和時刻表將有可能隨時變動。）

Fare指的是各種不同的運輸費用，如bus fare（公車費）、ship fare（船費）、airline fare（機票費）等。由於這個單字和「fair」發音相同，所以多益聽力部分第一、二大題很喜歡出這個單字來混淆考生。

請注意，fair的形容詞為公平的；名詞是展覽會，通常多益喜歡考展覽會這個意思。只要搞清楚前後文，就不難選出正確答案！

Be subject to是個常用的片語，意思是「受限於…」。subject在英文中有臣民的意思，也就是臣服於國王的人們都是subject。換言之，如果你是某人的臣民，就代表你受他的控制，也就是受限於某人。

英文中常見be subject to change的說法，就是受限於變動，所以航空公司掌控所有權，大家可以記住這個用法。

without notice意思是不須特別通知。notice作為動詞表示「注意到…」，當名詞時則是「公告」之意，因此布告欄bulletin board的另一個說法就是notice board。

2. Tickets are valid for the named passenger only and are not transferable.（所有機票只適用於指名的乘客，不能轉讓。）

Valid是多益高頻率單字，是形容詞「有效的」；validate則是它的動詞變化，有「使～有效」的意思，也能變成名詞validation。另外，validity是它的名詞變化，通常-ty字尾都是名詞，如infinity（無盡）、fidelity（忠誠）、credibility（可信度）等。

Transferable來自於transfer這個動詞，可以用在轉機或轉車；同時，它也是多益聽力部分常用字彙，如「You need to transfer to Line 4.」（你必須轉乘四號線）。

transfer後面加上「-able」變成形容詞，表示「能夠…的」，這也是常用的形容詞變化，例如doable（可行的）、possible（可能的）、available（可取用的）等。

這裡transfer為轉讓，結合上述便是「可以轉讓的」，前面加上un-字首變成否定，為「不可轉讓的」之意。也有人寫成non-transferable。因此下次買票時可要看清楚再決定！

3. Your e-ticket purchased from delta.com can be canceled without penalty here if it qualifies for Risk-free Cancellation.（你在delta.com網站所購買的電子機票若是符合公司「無風險取消訂票規則」 （Risk-free Cancellation）不需支付罰金。）

Penalty是懲罰，這裡的懲罰就是罰金。這個字來自拉丁文表達pain的單字，可想而知處罰是會痛的。英文death penalty指的就是死刑，將死亡作為懲罰。

Qualify也是多益測驗常見動詞，為「符合」之意。它和quality有些類似，所以一個東西或人的品質是好的，就是符合某種標準。

通常qualify搭配for這個介系詞使用，qualify for就是「符合…的資格」。

解析：

1. 本題題意為「這篇文章的主要讀者群為何？」

由於文章講到機票的退換貨規則，所以答案裡當選(C)乘客。其他的選項很明顯不符，因為這不是給(A)航空公司經理 、(B)機長或(D)空服員的公告。

2. 本題問「若是旅客因為無法預期的意外無法登機，他／她該怎麼辦？」

文中提到Tickets are non-transferable和Tickets are non-refundable, unless otherwise specified，所以選項A和C皆不選，因為文中明確指出不能轉讓也不能退票（除非有特別說明可以）。而後面文中提到Wholly unused tickets: Tickets are valid for transportation for one year from date of purchase.（全新的機票在購買日起未來一年內有效），因此從這句判斷答案選(B)最合理。由於本文確實有說明解決方法，因此不能選(D)。
