英文有「很多種」！10個「澳式英語」：垃圾不叫trash或garbage、蝦子不是shrimp…

我知道很多台灣人想要去澳洲當（打工）背包客
I know many Taiwanese are going to Australia to be backpackers.

但因為你們大部份學的是美式英文
Since a lot of you are learning American English.

所以今天我想介紹一些澳洲英文
So today I want to introduce some Australian English.

因為不太一樣
Because it’s different.

1.蝦子（美：shrimp）

The first one is “shrimp”. In Australia, we call it ”prawns”.
第一個是「蝦子」，在澳洲的說法是”prawns”

2.橡皮擦（美：eraser）

The second one is “eraser”. In Australia, we call it "rubber”.
第二個是「橡皮擦」，在澳洲我們叫"rubber”

3.夾腳拖（美：flip-flops）

The third one is “flip-flops”. In Australia, we call them “thongs”.
第三個是「夾腳拖」，在澳洲，我們用"thongs”

4.垃圾（美：trash、garbage）

The fourth one is “trash”. In Australia, we say “rubbish”.
第四個是「垃圾」，在澳洲，我們講"rubbish”

5.加油站（美：gas station）

The fifth one is “gas station”. We call it “servo”, which is short for "service station”.
第五個是「加油站」，我們叫"servo”，是"service station”的縮寫

6.汽油（美：gasoline）

The sixth one is “gas”, we say "petrol”.
第六個是「汽油」，我們叫"petrol”

7.洗衣店（美：laundry）

The seventh one is “laundry”.
第七個是「洗衣店」

My American friend says she’s going to “do the laundry”
美國人洗自己衣服叫”do the laundry”

but in Australia, we say "do the washing”.
但在澳洲，我們說"do the washing”

8.蚊子（美：mosquito）

The next one is “mosquitoes”. In Australia, a lot of people say ”mozzies”.
下一個是「蚊子」，在澳洲很多人說”mozzies”

9.晚餐（美：dinner）

The next one is “dinner”, a lot of people say “tea”
下一個是「晚餐」，很多人講"tea”

so instead of let’s have dinner, they say let’s have tea.
所以要吃晚餐在澳洲是講”let’s have tea”

10.我請客（美：”my shout”）

The next one is “my shout”.
下一個是「我請客」

In Australia, if someone wants to pay, they’ll say:
在澳洲如果有人要請客，他們會說：

“It’s my shout” or “I will shout you”
“It’s my shout” 或是 “I will shout you”

If you are craving a burger, you can’t go to Burger King.
如果你想吃漢堡，你不能去漢堡王

Because in Australia we call it “Hungry Jacks”.
因為在澳洲Burger King是叫Hungry Jacks

It’s the same but the name’s different.
其實就只是店名不一樣

And by the way, the capital city of Australia is Canberra.
還有，澳洲首都是坎培拉

Not Melbourne, not Sydney.
不是墨爾本，也不是雪梨

Also, I’ve heard it can be tough to be a backpacker in Australia.
聽說在澳洲打工很辛苦
