御前獻藝

表演或演出的英文字是performance，若說某人的工作表現讓上司滿意，就是：His job performance is satisfactory to the supervisor.，若是在performance前面加個command的字眼，意思就大大不同了。Command通常的意思是指揮，command and control是軍方術語，即指控（指揮、控制）之意。High command是最高指揮，如British High Command，即英國的最高統帥部。Command performance 作何解？大概御前獻藝是最接近原意的中文說法。

Command performance 是 a performance of a play, a concert, etc. at the request and in the presence of a monarch or a head of state（國王或國家元首要求並觀賞的戲劇、音樂會等演出），因由國王或元首要求表演，在這樣的場合演出自是御前獻藝。

柯林頓總統任內，中共總理朱鎔基應邀訪問華府，小柯在白宮設國宴款待，飯後的餘興節目是馬友友的大提琴演奏，這樣的演出即是command performance。當然去白宮獻藝，不單單是command performance，也是high honor（至高的榮譽）。
